Should We Get the 5 Year Copier Plan?
5-Year Copier Warranty: Worth It?
We have seen a lot of games played on customers in Salt Lake when it comes to warranties, and you have to watch for blatant scams. Whenever you buy a copier warranty, always read the fine print and ask questions to understand precisely what you will receive. For example, you see advertisements all the time claiming to give a one-year warranty. However, the fine print says that they will only allow for 3,000 copies. Only about 10 percent of today’s companies will ever print less than 1,000 prints in a year, so you have to watch carefully.
Right now, one of the biggest warranty scams we have seen comes from a guy in California who advertises his low priced color copiers. They have low meters that have been refurbished and they have a five-year warranty. However, before responding to such an advertisement, exercise your brain muscle.
The advertisement gets placed all over the country. It would cost more for him to fly a tech to service the copier than what you paid for the copier. Second, this guy is selling a $15,000 used business-class copier that might sell for $1,800 on the wholesale market. We have seen customers scammed by this guy. They thought they got a smoking hot deal, but later found out they purchased a used copier with a high meter copier, and they bought a copier that actually had no warranty.
Of course there are good copier deals out there to be had. Ultimately, you need to be comfortable you are working with one of the 80+ percent of dealers who try to be fair and honest. If you have one of them, you will generally be OK, even if you are frustrated from time to time they will do the right thing for you.
