Going Out of Business?

Multifunction printerThe Going Out of Business Copier Scam

Luckily, your average copier con man will not be clever enough to come up with a scam on their own. For example, you have the going out of business copier scam that con artists stole from the popular furniture business, which has been widely used.

A few years ago, the furniture business became popular because they would run the scam for a couple months or years. Next, they would move the location to do the same thing.

That is what we have seen in the copier business. For example, we learned of a con artist who acted like a big shot and told people he owned multiple location and handed out a business card with four different locations. What were the addresses on the business card? One related to a copier company he had nothing to do with, another was the address to a storage company, the next an empty lot, the fourth an address to a hotel.

Because this guy ripped off so many people, he had to move into a rental house using his girlfriend’s name. Then he rented a rent-by-the-month community office space, and started telling people that he just wanted to get rid of the copier before closing office. He has actually run this scam for three years now, and he has a woman working for him so that he can use her name.
